Youths Scramble For Fuel As Tanker Falls At Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
Youths numbering over 50 are selling premium motor spirit (PMS) in
buckets along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway where a fuel-laden tanker fell
this morning.
A 20 litre bucket was being sold from N1800 upwards, depending on the
buyer’s bargaining power. A queue was building up as drivers call on
the youths to dispense fuel to their waiting vehicles. As youths
struggle to fetch fuel from the fallen tanker, policemen and officials
of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) watch.
A Fire Service truck belonging to the Ogun State government was also on standby to ensure any fire outbreak is controlled.
Similar incidents in the past have ended up in infernos, but Nigerians always take their chances and that was the youths did.
Nigeria struggles with fuel scarcity as its new president Muhammadu
Buhari is sworn in. Nigerians will be looking up to him to address all
the problems the country faces and for many of them, they want to see
the change he promised as from today.
One of the youths selling the fuel fetched from the tanker attributed
the ‘easy money’ he was getting to Buhari. He said in Hausa, “Buhari
has entered, change has started”.
