AMVCA Imitations: Sheyi Shay vs Rihanna and Annie Idibia vs Cameron Diaz

Just when we thought the fashion imitations were over with Kehinde Bankole’s unflattering version of Zuhair Murad’s couture piece, some other celebrities were caught in the web, only this time they nailed it better.

Seyi Shay was spotted at the most recent AMVCA donning a plunging neckline dress with a thigh-high slit by British fashion label, House of CB. Rihanna had earlier channeled the same trend to Clive Davis’ annual Pre-Grammy Gala event in 2014 wearing an Alexandre Vauthier Spring Couture gown.

Annie Idibia also attended the movie awards looking like a classic beauty in a custom floor length dress by Nuraniya. The dressy cape ensemble shared similarities with a cobalt blue dress spotted on Cameron Diaz at the 2013 MET gala.

While Rihanna channeled the trend a hundred time better than Seyi, it’s a close tie between Cameron who gave the classic look an edgy spin with that metallic spike belt and Annie who kept the look classic.

What keeps the business of fashion up and running may be trend recycling, but I still think inspiration that leaves no trace wins over inspiration or imitation itself. But, as always I leave it to my Otv style rangers to play Judge and Jury on who wore these trends better.
